Thirty-two key terms for understanding AI applied to the agrifood industry: regulations, satellite indices, information systems, integrations and concepts specific to the platform.

API bidireccional: A programming interface allowing data to flow both ways between two systems. At VisualNACert, the two-way API connects the platform to your ERP, CRM, BI and machinery: we send field data and receive management data with no double entry. See interoperability solution.
AgroVRAIN: The VisualNACert ecosystem’s artificial intelligence platform, specialised in the agrifood industry. It works as an expert adviser: it answers technical, regulatory and commercial questions in seconds, citing the official sources it draws on. Ver AgroVRAIN.
Copernicus: The European Earth observation programme coordinated by the European Space Agency (ESA). VisualNACert uses the Copernicus programme’s Sentinel satellites to deliver imagery of every plot every 5 days, with history going back to December 2016.
CSRD · Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive: Directiva europea 2022/2464 which requires large companies to report their environmental and social impact against standardised criteria. VisualNACert generates CSRD reports automatically from the agronomic data already recorded: carbon, water and energy footprint per kilo produced.
Digital field logbook: The mandatory electronic record of every activity carried out on agricultural holdings in Spain (treatments, irrigation, fertilisation, harvesting). Connected to the SIEX run by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture. VisualNACert generates it automatically from day-to-day operations, in Word, Excel and PDF.
DANA · Isolated high-altitude depression: A weather phenomenon causing torrential rain and severe damage to agricultural holdings. VisualNACert assesses damage quickly against historical georeferenced data. The AgriRecover system developed by VisualNACert was recognised at the SantanderX Challenge: DANA Response (2025).
ENAC · Spanish National Accreditation Body: The Spanish body responsible for accrediting certification bodies, inspection bodies and laboratories against international standards. enac.es.
ERP · Enterprise Resource Planning: An enterprise resource planning system centralising finance, purchasing, sales and production information. VisualNACert does not replace your ERP: it integrates with it through a two-way API so field data reaches finance and ERP data reaches the field.
FEGA · Spanish Agriculturel Guarantee Fund: The Ministry of Agriculture body responsible for managing and paying Common Agriculturel Policy (CAP) subsidies. It maintains and publishes the SIGPAC.
FertiPRO: The VisualNACert ecosystem app for calculating fertilisation rates by plot. It combines soil, water and organic matter analysis, and generates reports compliant with RD 1051/2022 ready to submit. Ver FertiPRO.
Fertigation: A technique combining irrigation and fertilisation by injecting soluble fertilisers into the irrigation water under control. VisualNACert integrates with automatic fertigation systems to record applied rates and link them to the fertilisation plan.
Fitosanitario: A chemical or biological product used to protect crops from pests, diseases and weeds. In Spain, authorised products are listed by the Ministry of Agriculture and updated monthly in VisualNACert, along with the history of withdrawn products (available during audits).
Geoportal · GIS: The Geographic Information System (GIS) built into VisualNACert, allowing you to consult in-house and external map layers through OGC standards (WMS, WFS): SIGPAC, land use, nitrate vulnerable zones, IGN and others.
IA agroalimentaria: Applying artificial intelligence to the agricultural and industrial cycle: computer vision for pest detection, predictive harvest models, weather alerts and cost optimisation. VisualNACert trains models on its own agronomic context and each client’s data — it does not sell generic models.
Two-way interoperability: A system’s ability to exchange data with other systems in both directions. VisualNACert combines its own API with integration into external APIs (ERP, CRM, BI, machinery), so data flows without silos. See interoperability solution.
LAI · Leaf Area Index: Leaf area index, an indicator derived from satellite imagery measuring the density of a crop’s canopy. Useful for estimating growth stage and vigour. Available in VisualNACert’s web maps and app.
MAPA · Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food: The Spanish Government department responsible for agricultural, livestock and fisheries policy. It maintains the official plant protection product lists, the SIEX guidelines and SIGPAC through FEGA. mapa.gob.es.
Multiplataforma: A characteristic of an application that runs across different devices and operating systems. Every VisualNACert app is multiplatform (web, iOS, Android) and works online and offline with automatic sync.
NDVI · Normalized Difference Vegetation Index: A vegetation vigour index derived from the contrast between red and near-infrared light reflected by the canopy. The standard indicator for spotting stressed areas within a plot. VisualNACert delivers it every 5 days per plot using Copernicus imagery, with history from 2016.
NDII · Normalized Difference Infrared Index: A satellite index detecting moisture content in the canopy, making it possible to identify water stress in the plant before it is visible to the eye. Available in VisualNACert alongside NDVI and LAI.
Fertilisation plan: A technical document detailing fertiliser rates, products and application dates by plot and season. Mandatory under RD 1051/2022 for holdings above certain thresholds. FertiPRO calculates and issues it automatically.
Purines: Organic livestock waste applied as fertiliser. Its management is regulated (fertiliser logbook, farm geolocation, traceability). VisualNACert includes a specific module for slurry management on mixed livestock and arable holdings.
RD 1051/2022: The Spanish Royal Decree on sustainable nutrition in agricultural soils (BOE, 27 diciembre 2022). It sets requirements for planning and recording fertilisation in order to reduce emissions and improve soil quality. VisualNACert generates reports compliant with Royal Decree 1051/2022 automatically.
Visual Selphi: The VisualNACert ecosystem solution for digital time and attendance on agricultural holdings. Clock-in verified by employee number, QR or biometrics, works offline, with geolocation and secure storage for 4 years to respond to a labour inspection. Ver Visual Selphi.
Sentinel: The family of Earth observation satellites in ESA’s Copernicus programme. Sentinel-2 (multispectral, 10 m resolution) is the main source of the NDVI, LAI and NDII indices VisualNACert serves to its clients.
SIGPAC · Spanish Geographic Information System for Agriculturel Plots: The official land registry of agricultural plots in Spain, maintained by FEGA. It is used as the reference for identifying block, plot and enclosure in CAP subsidy applications. VisualNACert updates SIGPAC automatically each year and intersects it with the client’s own geometries.
SIEX · Spanish Agriculturel Holdings Information System: The Spanish system centralising the register of holdings, their activities and production data. VisualNACert generates a SIEX-compatible digital field logbook from the activities recorded on the platform.
Two-way traceability: The ability to trace an agrifood product in both directions: from the field batch to the pallet at the end customer, and from the end customer back to the plot and the exact moment of origin. VisualNACert connects the field logbook, the processing plant and the end customer with no double entry. See post on traceability.
Zero treatments: The strategic goal of VisualNACert’s experimental farm: producing quality without resorting to plant protection products or chemical fertilisers. Achieved through cover crops, beneficial fauna, IoT sensors and predictive models. Ver finca experimental.

Computer vision: The branch of AI that trains models to interpret images and video. In agrifood it is applied to detecting pests on leaves, quality control at the hopper and yard, identifying varieties and visually verifying applications. Available in Visual Selphi.
