The citrus industry generates thousands of data points, and most of them already sit inside the businesses themselves: the challenge is not having them, it is knowing how to read them. To manage that, artificial intelligence needs more than computing power. In 2026, the regional government of Valencia officially declared the presence in the Valencia region of citrus yellow vein clearing virus (CYVCV), an emerging virus of the Potexvirus genus with no known curative treatment, which can go unnoticed in some species but cause significant production losses in lemon, and it triggered urgent plant health control and eradication measures. This is exactly the kind of signal a farm needs to cross-reference with the rest of its information — variety, plot, treatment history, source plant material — instead of handling it as an isolated alert that arrives on its own and late. A detection of this kind only delivers real value if it is immediately connected to which plots, which variety and which plant material are at risk, and to how quickly a decision can be taken about it.
